The Let Us Save A Life Concert, an event to raise funds for Lieutenant Stitchie, takes place on December 1 at JCA in Toronto, Canada. It is staged by Kings Of Kings Productions.
Colin “Iley Dread” Levy, principal of Kings Of Kings Productions, Hawkeye, Jah Kettle, Vypa, Jah Pickney and George P are scheduled to perform on the show.
Iley Dread, who has known Lieutenant Stitchie since the 1980s, stressed the importance of helping the veteran deejay who suffered a brain hemorrhage in early September.
“This event is a lifesaving fundraiser. I feel compelled to do this event knowing the last show that Stitchie performed on was my annual Mother’s Day event on May 12, 2024. Being a humanitarian person, I think it’s imperative for all of us in the music industry to do the best we can to help one another in need,” he said.
In October, the Bounty Foundation, dancehall artist Bounty Killer’s charity organization, donated $10,000 to Stitchie’s family to assist with his medical expenses. Bounty Killer and singer Richie Stephens presented a cheque to Sophia Laing, Stitchie’s wife who disclosed that he is recovering steadily after surgery.
Lieutenant Stitchie made a name on sound systems in his native Spanish Town, Jamaica before getting the big break in 1986 with Wear Yuh Size. That set the pace for other hit singles like Natty Dread, Great Ambition, Big Broad Hips and Night And Day.
In the late 1980s, Stitchie signed with Atlantic Records. A decade later, he converted to Christianity and has since released several gospel albums.
