When veteran singer and musician Frederick Nathaniel “Toots” Hibbert passed away in September 2020 he left behind a musical legacy that has stood the test of time.
Songs including 54-46 (That’s My Number), Do The Reggay, Pomps and Pride, Sweet and Dandy, Pressure Drop, Beautiful Woman and Country Roads (Take Me Home) sailed to the pinnacle of multiple music charts globally and established Toots and his group The Maytals as a force to reckon with.
The still untitled project is scheduled for a summer release next year. The Maytals, Rally Up Music and Victory Nation will be involved in the project, which will be the sixth release by Junior Toots.
“The fans should expect greatness and another legendary contribution to the legacy of Jamaican reggae and ska, filled with excitement and passion according to the high standards that my father set,” said Junior Toots.
Junior Toots, who has an emerging fan base, has spent most of his life touring with his father. As a result, he now feels ready to carve out his own career path.
“I’ve toured extensively with my dad and learned everything from him and there was nothing in my opinion that he was lacking. He had it all; reggae, ska, fantastic energy on and off the stage and he thrilled his audiences everywhere he went. I am happy that I was able to share such wonderful experiences with my father, a great legend and an icon, and I am now ready to show what I have learned,” he said.
Toots Hibbert won the Grammy Award in 2005 and again in 2021 with True Love and Got to Be Tough respectively.
In 2012, he was awarded the Order of Jamaica, the country’s highest national honor.
Hibbert ranked #71 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.
