Ten years is a long time to spend on an album, but that is how much time it took for singer Elihu Morris to complete Broken Silence, his début set which was recently released.

He co-produced the 13-song album with long-time collaborator Andrew “Bassie” Campbell.

“It feels good to know that I set out to achieve a goal and to make this album. With the patience and time with diligence and dedication to not just make an album, but one that is authentic with a purpose,” Morris told the Jamaica Observer.

He added that Broken Silence “stays true to its original roots and honors my mentors”.

The album includes the previously released ballad, On Your Side Town of Town for which Morris filmed a video in Kolkata, India, as a nod to his East Indian heritage.

Another song released prior to Broken Silence was How You Cold So, one of the first projects Morris collaborated with Campbell, a veteran bassist best known for playing on some of Junior Reid’s early songs.

Morris and Campbell also co-produced The Evolution of Elihu Morris, an EP released in 2010. Four years later, they began production on what became Broken Silence.

Keyboardist Franklin “Bubbler” Waul and guitarist Dalton Browne are among the musicians who played on the album which Morris describes as “food to feed the mind, body, and soul”.
