Love is in the air, and so is the rich, velvety baritone of Peter G. The rising reggae crooner steps confidently into the spotlight with his self-titled debut EP, a six-track collection that celebrates love and introduces a fresh voice to modern reggae and Lovers Rock.
Released under IriePen Label, the project serves as a prelude to Peter G’s upcoming full-length album. Leading the production are Grammy-winning duo Sly Dunbar and the late Robbie Shakespeare, alongside respected songwriter Hopeton Lindo. According to Dunbar, “Peter G has the experience. He’s been working with us in the studio and on the road for a while. He’s got the talent.” He describes Peter G’s voice as a “Reggae Lou Rawls, but with his own unique creative ideas.”
The EP boasts standout tracks such as Freeze This Moment and a reggae-infused rendition of When Love Is New, produced by Sly & Robbie. Other highlights include the sultry duet Let Me Please You featuring Novel-T, the soulful Back It Up, and the smooth, captivating Simply Magic. The set also features the chart-topping Not Taking No, which dominated the South Florida reggae charts for three weeks.
Peter G co-wrote most of the EP with Hopeton Lindo, with the exception of When Love Is New, a reggae remake of the Arthur Prysock classic, featuring harmonies from acclaimed vocalist Cherine Anderson.
The project also includes contributions from the late reggae icon Robbie Shakespeare and renowned producers Willie Lindo, Syl Gordon, Al Graham, Paul Gauntlett, Dave Richards, and Orville “Rorey” Baker.
The creative process was not without its surprises. Lindo recalls, “Let Me Please You” was originally recorded as a solo track. Later, we decided to turn it into a duet. Novel-T was in Miami, and they recorded separately, but the voices blend seamlessly.”
As anticipation builds, Peter G hopes his music will leave a lasting impact. “I want to create timeless music that touches hearts and celebrates love in all its forms,” he says. With a sound that channels the golden era of Lovers Rock while infusing fresh, contemporary energy, Peter G is ready to make his mark.
His journey has just begun, but one thing is certain, listeners are in for something special.
