In their nearly 30-year relationship, Shango Trex and StarFyah have shared personal and professional love. That passion can be heard on Give My Heart, which they recorded as Stashang and released on March 28.
The self-produced song is the New York-based duo’s first recorded project as a duo. For Shango Trex — who is originally from Kingston, Jamaica — collaborating with the woman he considers his soul mate was stress-free.
“Being comfortable to freely be playful with creative expression,” he said.
StarFyah — born in the United Kingdom but raised in Jamaica — expressed similar sentiments, describing their collaboration as, “Exciting and liberating to be able to work in a judgement-free environment.
The members of Stashang have been in the music business for many years. They developed their music skills on Jamaica’s north coast tourist circuit, which has nurtured the careers of many of the country’s top artists.
Shango Trex and StarFyah also lived and worked in Japan where they were part of Tokyo’s bustling reggae scene. However, it was not until last year they agreed that 2025 would be the year to become an official act.
That meant recording a number of songs to announce Stashang as serious artists who make easy-listening, genre-bending reggae. The flow on Give my Heart is a sign of things to come.
“Fans can expect the same energy as we experiment with different vibes going forward,” said Shango Trex.
