SISTER NANCY’S “BAM BAM” TOPS ITUNES REGGAE CHART!

 Sister Nancy— Bam Bam, a three decade-old single from deejay Sister Nancy, is receiving a new lease on life. It currently holds the number one spot on the iTunes Reggae Top 100 Chart. Recorded in the mid-1980s for producer Winston Riley, the track is from the album One Two. Bam Bam is one of two Jamaican songs on the soundtrack of the controversial movie The Interview. The Vybz Kartel-penned Pon de Floor, performed by EDM group Major Laser, is the other. The Interview had a limited release by Sony on Christmas Day in the United States. The comedy, starring James Franco and Seth Rogen, surrounds a plot to assassinate North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un. THE JAMAICA JAZZ & BLUES FESTIVAL TO HONOR JOHN HOLT JANUARY 29!

John Holt—– ORGANISERS of the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival have tapped some of reggae music’s finest to present a tribute to late singer John Holt. The festival is scheduled for the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium from January 29-31. The tribute, however, will be on the opening night. The line-up includes singers Errol Dunkley, George Nooks, Judy Mowatt, Cornell Campbell, vocal group The Tamlins, deejay Josey Wales and soca singer Oscar B, all backed by Lloyd Parks and We The People Band. Each act will dedicate part of their sets to Holt.   Holt hailed from Greenwich Town, a fishing community in Kingston, with a rich music heritage. CHRIS BROWN’S PROBATION REVOKED, NOW FACING JAIL TIME!

Chris Brown has had his probation revoked in the Rihanna case, in part because he was present at 2 separate nightclubs when people inside were shot, and officials are worried about more shootings and think Chris should serve time behind bars. Chris showed up for a progress report Thursday, when the judge told him the probation report presented multiple problems. First, the report mentions the shooting last Sunday in San Jose when Chris was on stage. Five people were injured. The judge also said the probation report expressed concern over another shooting at 1OAK during VMA weekend last August. Again, Chris was on stage and several people were shot, including Suge Knight. Colourful costumes and movement bring members of the Ashe Performing Arts Company to vivid life. – Contributed Vibes Theatre opens January 23— By Shereita Grizzle— Jamaica’s theatre space will get a much-needed addition on Friday, January 23, when The Ashe Performing Arts Company opens its Vibes Theatre. Located at 8 Cargill Avenue, St Andrew, it will be the company’s first theatre. According to Conroy Wilson, Ashe’s creative director, it has always been the organisation’s vision to re-establish its own performance space after vacating their previous centre in Nannyville 12 years ago. Wilson said funding for the theatre’s development came mainly from the company’s resources, acquired through performances over the years. They were also assisted by the Jamaica Public Service Company, which provided the utility poles which form a part of the theatre’s structure.
