ACTOR ROD TAYLOR DIES AT 84!

An Australian actor who transitioned into a Hollywood leading man with his breakthrough role in the 1960 sci-fi thriller The Time Machine, Taylor’s career spanned nearly six decades. VP RECORDS TO RELEASE EDDIE MURPHY’S LATEST REGGAE SINGLE “OH JAH JAH” ON JANUARY 27!

Eddie Murphy— ACTOR Eddie Murphy is taking another crack at reggae, with the song “Oh Jah Jah” which is scheduled to be released January 27, by VPAL Classic, the digital arm of VP Records. Donovan Williams, VPAL’s manager, told the Jamaica Observer that Murphy produced the song which is describes as a “cultural track”. He said the actor’s “people reached out to us” to help market and promote the single, which is Murphy’s second reggae number in 18 months. In the summer of 2013, he teamed with rapper Scoop Dogg on the song “Red Light”. In 1993, Murphy collaborated with Grammy-winning deejay Shabba Ranks for the single, “When I Was King”. According to his mom Suze Sadler, Myles has been listening to the reggae icon “since he was in [her] belly.” “Our family is from Haiti and Jamaica, so we have always played Bob Marley in our household,” Sadler told The Huffington Post. Around his first birthday, the toddler started singing along to Bob Marley songs and re-enacting his moves. “Every time he sang a Bob song, he did it with so much passion and soul,” Sadler said. NOEL “KING SPORTY” WILLIAMS, CO-WRITER OF BOB MARLEY’S “BUFFALO SOLDIER”, DIES IN MIAMI AT 71!

 King Sporty— Noel ‘King Sporty’ Williams, who co-wrote the song Buffalo Soldier with Bob Marley, died Monday in Miami at age 71. Abdul Muhsin, his friend of 37 years, told the OBSERVER ONLINE that Sporty died at the University of Miami Hospital at 8:15 pm. No cause of death has been given. Born in Portland, Sporty was a pioneer of the Miami reggae scene, having lived in South Florida since the early 1960s. Sporty first recorded Buffalo Soldier in the late 1970s for his Konduko label. Marley’s version became popular after his death in 1981. Sporty started his career in the 1960s as a deejay at Studio One, recording a number of hit songs for producer Clement Dodd’s label.
