BILLBOARD MAGAZINE SAYS AMERICAN REGGAE ACTS OUT-SELL THEIR JAMAICAN COUNTERPARTS!

Chronixx– By Shereita Grizzle— In June, Billboard disclosed some news that many may have found surprising, or perhaps not. The website revealed that United States (US) reggae acts were outselling their Jamaican counterparts, by comparing the number of Jamaican acts that have singles or albums on their charts to the number of US acts also making the list. If you thought the June findings were a hoax, the website did yet another comparison which yielded similar results. The recent findings show five American reggae acts occupying the top 10 positions on the Reggae Album chart for the week ending September 13. SOJA’s Amid The Noise and Haste has held the top slot for the past three weeks, selling a total of 16,083 units, according to Nielsen Soundscan. R&B SINGER KEYSHIA COLE ARRESTED ON SUSPICION OF BATTERY!

Singer Keyshia Cole (Photo: AFP)— LOS ANGELES (AP) — Police say Grammy-nominated R&B singer Keyshia Cole has been arrested on suspicion of battery after an altercation early Friday morning in Los Angeles. Los Angeles police officer Nuria Vanegas says Cole was arrested around 5 am after someone initiated a private person’s arrest. The 32-year-old was booked on suspicion of battery and released from custody Friday afternoon. Police did not release any further details about the incident. An e-mail message sent to Cole’s publicist was not immediately returned.  Orisha Sound— NORWAY-BORN, Jamaica-based reggae artist Orisha Sound is gearing up for the release of her latest single Gimmi The Beat, featuring Shel-K. Produced on the Black and Yellow Entertainment label, the track is the first song from her sophomore 10-track album, 1 Reggae. Slated for December 2, the set is co-produced by South African Alexis Faku and Shel-K. “Each week starting September 23, one track will be released,” the 25-year-old told the Jamaica Observer. “Each song comes out very powerful and different. BELIZE’S ROMAN CATHOLIC BISHOP OPPOSES CONCERT BY DANCEHALL ARTIST ALKALINE!

   Alkaline— BELMOPAN, Belize (CMC) — The head of the Roman Catholic Church in Belize, Bishop Dorrick Wright Friday spoke out against a planned concert this weekend by Jamaican artist, ‘Alkaline’. “As the Bishop of Belize, I strongly oppose this event, which represents a serious error in judgement on the part of the Administration of Sacred Heart in allowing it to take place on their campus,” said Bishop Wright in a statement. The concert is being promoted for Saturday night, the eve of Belize’s Independence anniversary celebration, at the Sacred Heart auditorium in San Ignacio town in western Belize.  Xana Romeo— XANA Romeo, daughter of veteran roots-reggae singer Max Romeo, is set to release her mix tape, The Cleanse, which is produced by her father for his Tharmax Music label. According to 20-year-old Xana, The Cleanse is a personal statement. “It speaks about the cleansing process that one must go through to become a more positive individual,” she said. Born in the Kingston community of Greenwich Town, Xana was christened Azana Smith.
