JAMAICA’S SUPREME COURT RULES AGAINST DOWNSOUND RECORDING STUDIO’S LOCATION IN RESIDENTIAL AREA!

   Joe Bagdanovich— KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Supreme Court has handed down a judgement giving the owners of the popular Downsound recording studio at 43 St Andrew Park, a property zoned for residential use, to return the premises to its original use by September 16. The decision ends a long battle between the music producers and residents of the east central St Andrew community, over whether the premises should continue as a music studio. The studio was originally owned by the very successful dancehall producing brothers, Dave and Tony Kelly (Mad House Records), before it was sold in 2002 to current owner, Josef Bogdanovich, an American dancehall music producer and entrepreneur. NEW YORKERS CELEBRATE MARCUS GARVEY WITH A CULTURAL SHOW AND PARADE IN QUEENS!

  Marcus Mosiah Garvey – File By Dave Rodney– This year marks the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) by Jamaican national hero and international political activist the Hon Marcus Mosiah Garvey.  The UNIA was created in 1914 to mobilise and empower black people across the globe. To celebrate the centennial, a flurry of Garvey tributes will take place across the United States, including a special cultural presentation tomorrow at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center in Queens, New York. The Queens tribute is the brainchild of Michael Duncan, Jamaica-born businessman, community leader, political activist and noted Garveyite in New York. Yesterday, news emerged that a flight to New York from Georgetown, Guyana, scheduled to leave last Friday, was delayed for two days. Before that, on July 10, the Kingston to New York flight was cancelled, an irate passenger told the Jamaica Observer. “People were at the airport at 2:30 am for a 5:30 am departure. Up to 9:30 nobody was talking to my family and they didn’t know what was happening. Eventually they were re-routed on another airline,” the passenger said.
