Now, just a few months later, the country’s sound systems are back in the spotlight, following the publication of a new book. Sound System Culture, Celebrating Huddersfield’s Sound Systems, is the title of the literature written by Paul Huxtable, a sound-systemoperator from Huddersfield, United Kingdom. The book which was published earlier this month, was conceived by co-editor Mandeep Samra, and explores the unique and rich culture of Huddersfield’s sound systems. The book traces the origin of reggae sound systems in Jamaica, to their establishment in the UK and beyond, specifically focusing on the Huddersfield scene.   MEREDITH… a bit too much computers in the music… LAST year when bass player Chris Meredith decided on a return to music production he wanted his comeback project to reflect the sound that inspired him as a youth — stripped-down roots-reggae. While listening to a number of 1970s ‘rhythms’, he found one particularly appealing. “Is a old Bunny Lee beat wid two bass part, an’ wi actually play the second part. His latest song, Help The Youth, appeals for state-instituted programmes to assist the country’s economically challenged youngsters. “The youth dem a face all kinda atrocities an’ deception. Dem need the truth, but no one want dem to be part of the truth,” said the 28-year-old Rastafarian. Help The Youth is Jayute’s fifth song.
