 Freddie McGregor— Startime, the popular ‘vintage music’ show, makes it debut at The Verandah in Clarendon Park, on July 2. It is presented by Juici Patties. SINGJAY D-MEDZ, TRAVELS DOWN THE STUDIO ONE ROAD FOR NEW RELEASES!

 D-Medz Though admitting he was never a big fan of Studio One music, singjay D-Medz said when he got a “spiritual vibration” to record songs on some of the legendary label’s fabled rhythms, he did not hesitate. He did eight songs on classic beats like the Real Rock, Far East and Answer for From a Boy To a Man, a mix tape scheduled for release soon. “I got this spiritual vibration to do something different an’ also pay homage to the foundation. Bob Marley, Desmond Dekker, Burning Spear and Peter Tosh were some of the music’s pioneer road warriors. Today, the Jamaica Observer starts a series looking at artists, booking agents and shows active during this period. Freddie McGregor is one of the reggae veterans on the tour circuit this summer. The 60-year-old singer has been on the road for over 30 years. He kicks off his European campaign on Friday with the first of three dates at O2 venues in the United Kingdom. GRACE JAMAICAN JERK FESTIVAL HEADS TO WASHINGTON, D.C., JUNE 19!

“THE UNITED KINGDOM NO LONGER HAS A VIBRANT REGGAE MARKET” SAYS ONE OF ITS LEADING PROMOTERS!

 Pauline Stephenson—- THOUGH it is home to thousands of people with Jamaican heritage, the United Kingdom no longer has a vibrant reggae market.  According to Pauline Stephenson, a Jamaican publicist who lives in London, that slump continued in 2015. Stephenson is principal of Magnetic Energy Promotions which helped organize the One Love Festival and shows by singer Lukie D in the UK this year. “The most fulfilling thing in terms of what I do was the One Love Festival, which embraced reggae across the board in relation to patrons and artists from various countries,” Stephenson told the Jamaica Observer. “It exposed the unity that can be instilled when people communicate, share a true love and passion for the genre.” There was no increase in the number of shows featuring Jamaican artists, especially contemporary acts. THINGS ARE LOOKING UP FOR FREDDIE McGREGOR!

 Freddie McGregor— BEING an artist for over 50 years, Freddie McGregor is used to the unpredictability of the music business. He has had his share of ups and downs.  The 59-year-old singer says 2015 was a mixed bag. “It was a balanced year for me. From summer onwards things picked up quite well…We toured a lot,” he told the Jamaica Observer. McGregor kicked off his 2015 concert season in January at Rebel Salute followed by February dates in the United Kingdom alongside Romain Virgo.
