 Morgan Heritage— Four Jamaicans and a Ghanian have been nominated for Best Reggae Album at the 2016 Grammy Awards. The nominations for the 58th Annual Grammy Awards were announced  by the National Academy of Recording, Arts and Sciences. JAMAICAN REGGAE ACTS FAIL TO IMPRESS U.S. BUYERS, NUMBERS FROM SOUNDSCAN REVEAL!

BY KEVIN JACKSON—-  Top: Romain Virgo Bottom: American band Rebelution— THE latest Billboard Reggae Album Chart reveals that only eight albums have sold over 1,000 copies, reflecting another poor year in the American market for Jamaican acts. Figures compiled by sales tracker Soundscan show dismal numbers for most of the albums and EPs on the 50-strong table.   Count Me In by American band Rebelution has so far sold 51,339 copies, the best of the lot. The set has been on the chart for 76 weeks and is currently number five, selling just over 419 copies last week.Amid the Noise & Haste, the Grammy- nominated set from SOJA, another American band, has been in the chart over 67 weeks. JAH CURE IS “GOOD TO GO” AFTER CLEARING-UP DEBT IN TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO!

 Jah Cure— REGGAE artist Jah Cure was given clearance to leave Trinidad and Tobago yesterday by Judge James Aboud after the singer settled an outstanding debt with a party promoter. According to the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian online, Jah Cure (given name is Siccature Alcock) and his legal team reappeared before the high court judge at the Hall of Justice in Port of Spain and informed the court that a settlement was made with Keevan Phillips of Sunshine Promotions. Jah Cure’s attorney Steven Singh said that his client agreed to pay Phillips US$2,500, in addition to the US$6,000 that was paid on Sunday night. Jah Cure was arrested on Sunday night, minutes after he completed a performance at the O2 Park in Chaguaramas. JAH CURE ARRESTED IN TRINIDAD!

Jamaican reggae artist Jah Cure is the latest international performer to face legal woes whilst on tour in Trinidad. The 36-year-old performer, real name Siccature Alcock, was arrested by marshals of the Port -of-Spain High Court shortly after completing his performance at a show at the O2 Park in Chaguaramas on Sunday night. Alcock, who has been a regular fixture on the local entertainment scene since being released after serving an eight year prison for rape in Jamaica in 2008, was brought to the Hall of Justice around 1 am. After lengthy discussions between his lawyer Mario Merritt and attorneys for the local promoter who he owes over TT $83,000 in performance fees for a concert that did not materialize, Alcock was allowed to go free. The set sold 2,500 copies in its opening week to surge to the top. Distributed by VP Records, The Cure contains 13 tracks, including a cover of John Legend’s All of Me, Rasta, That Girl, Life We Live, Made In California and I Surrender. Christopher ‘Sketch’ Carey, Clive Hunt, Llamar ‘Riff Raff’ Brown, Justin ‘Jus Bus’ Nation, and Trevor ‘Baby G’ James produced songs on The Cure.
