By Howard Campbell— Mr. Easy THERE was no hotter jam in the summer of 1997 than producer Dave Kelly’s Joyride. One of the artists who helped make it a dance favourite was singer Mr. Easy. His Funny Man (Strange Things) was one of the hits that rode the Joyride which appeared on Kelly’s prolific Mad House label. Mr. Easy returns for another crack at the charts, and insists he is up to the task. “As an artist yuh always have to reinvent yuhself an’ keep trying and keep working. Whatever the people want yuh have to gravitate to it,” he said. One way to keep fresh in the dancehall is to work with in-demand producers. MAXI PRIEST’S “EASY TO LOVE” MAKES IMPRESSIVE DEBUT ON BILLBOARD REGGAE CHART!

   By Kevin Jackson— Maxi Priest— It has been a while since British reggae singer Maxi Priest entered the Billboard charts. His new album, Easy to Love, which was released July 1 by VP Records, debuted at number two on the Billboard Reggae Album chart. It is Priest’s first entry on any Billboard chart in 15 years. His last entry was 1999’s album Combination which peaked at number five on the publication’s reggae table. Easy to Love, which has 11 tracks, sold 1,169 copies in its first week, according to sales tracker Nielsen Soundscan. It features collaborations with deejay Agent Sasco and Beres Hammond. Producers who worked on the album include Steven ‘Lenky’ Marsden, Earl ‘Chinna’ Smith, Clive Hunt, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare. SEAN PAUL, I-OCTANE AND DEMARCO ARE ADDED TO THE MONTREAL INTERNATIONAL REGGAE FESTIVAL FOR AUGUST 15-17!

  Sean Paul—- ORGANIZERS of the Montreal International Reggae Festival have announced three more Jamaican acts for its annual show to be held in that French-Canadian city, on August 15-17. Sean Paul, I-Octane and Demarco are to join lover’s rock singers Maxi Priest and Sanchez, and reggae queen Marcia Griffiths for the three-day event. When the first set of acts was named late last month, organizers noted the line-up will reflect a blend of emerging and established acts in order to cater to the varied taste of patrons. Demarco, according to them, embodies a new era of avant-garde artists combining songwriting, music production, recording, and live performance.   C-Block— BRITISH-BASED Jamaican singer C-Block is set on carving his name on the musical landscape. The singer, who has been in the music industry for more than three decades, will also be releasing his latest studio album. Easy to Love, which is now available for pre-order on vpreggae.com, is being released by VP Records and will be Priest’s 13th album. It will also feature a collaboration with reggae veteran Beres Hammond.
