OMI’S “CHEERLEADER” GOES DOUBLE PLATINUM IN THE UNITED KINGDOM!

Jamaican artist OMI has achieved another international milestone with his smashing pop single “Cheerleader”, which was certified 2x platinum in the UK. The Clarendon-born singer, 29, took to Twitter to make the announcement on Wednesday, and posted a picture of himself holding the double platinum plaque. “2X PLATINUM in the UK! Thank YOU for making this possible. #Cheerleader #OMIarmy,” the post said. In the UK, double platinum means that “Cheerleader” has sold over a million units in the country. The BPI, which gives the certification in the UK also takes digital streams into consideration. Cheerleader was first released in 2012. A remix was released in 2014 and has gained global success in 2015. “Cheerleader” reached number one in 20 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, France, and Germany. AFTER FOUR NOMINATIONS, POPCAAN FINALLY WINS THE MOBO AWARD!

 Popcaan— After securing four nominations in as many years, deejay Popcaan finally won the MOBO Award for Best Reggae Act. The event took place on Wednesday night at the Leeds First Direct Arena, in west England. Popcaan, who was not present, won over Chronixx, London-based dancehall artist Stylo G, singjay Protoje and Omi, whose Cheerleader topped the British national chart in 2015. OMI, POPCAAN, AND CHRONIXX AMONG NOMINEES FOR 2015 MOBO AWARDS IN LONDON, NOVEMBER 4!

By Kevin Jackson—-  Popcaan THE success singer OMI enjoyed in 2015 has been rewarded with a nod for Best Reggae Act at the 20th annual UK MOBO Awards. OMI competes with Popcaan, Chronixx, Protoje and last year’s winner Stylo G in that category. The MOBO Awards (Music of Black Origin) ‘recognises artistes of any ethnicity or nationality performing black music’. This is the first nomination for both OMI and Protoje. It is the second for Chronixx and third for Stylo G while Popcaan earns his fourth nomination. OMI DROPS NEW SINGLE “HULA HOOP” AND ANNOUNCES HIS DEBUT ALBUM “ME 4 U” FOR OCTOBER 16!

OMI’s “Cheerleader” is a front runner for song of the summer 2015. The track currently holds #1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart for the sixth week, which ties it for the longest run at #1 on the Hot 100 for a reggae song in more than twenty-two years. The Jamaican-born singer, whose real name is Omar Pasley, had worked on track called “Cheerleader” as early as 2008, and released the first official version in 2012. But it’s actually the 2014 remix by twenty year old German DJ Felix Jaehn that has gone platinum in nine countries.
