Marcus Garvey—- If Sean Paul has his way, a movie depicting the life and works of national hero Marcus Garvey could soon be made. Sean Paul, speaking during an interview on the Breakfast Club, a renowned New York Hip-Hop and R&B media platform, said that he has mentioned the idea of a movie to Nick Cannon. Cannon is currently doing a movie, King of the Dancehall, which focuses on Jamaica’s dancehall culture. “What I want to get out of it is a charity,” said Sean Paul while adding he is willing to put money behind the project. “I see it as a big blockbuster movie making lots of money, and hopefully it will,” Sean Paul said. He earned his third number one last weekend with British electronic group Clean Bandit’s Rockabye, which also features singer Ann Marie. Sean Paul’s previous chart-toppers in the UK came with 2003’s Breathe, featuring Rhythm And Blues singer Blu Cantrell, and 2013’s What About Us, a collaboration with girl group The Saturdays. NOMINATIONS ARE OPEN FOR THE MOBO (MUSIC OF BLACK ORIGIN) AWARDS!

By Richard Johnson—-  Sean Paul—-  Nominations are open for the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards, which recognizes artists of any ethnicity or nationality performing black music, and will be presented in Glasgow, Scotland, on November 4. Of particular interest to local artists is the Best Reggae Act category. To be considered for nomination, the artist must have released a single, album or mixtape between August 29 last year and August 31 this year. According to MOBO organizers, any music released after this period will be considered for next year’s awards. The nominations will be reviewed by a panel and a shortlist of five nominees submitted to a group of more than 100 industry insiders for final votes. He is featured on the remix of Australian singer Sia’s Cheap Thrills, which takes over the top spot from Drake’s One Dance featuring Wiz Kid and Kyla, which led the chart for 10 weeks. Cheap Thrills becomes the fourth number one Hot 100 single for Sean Paul. His previous chart-toppers are Temperature in 2006; and Get Busy and Baby Boy (with Beyonce) in 2003. DANCEHALL SUPERSTAR SEAN PAUL, HAS REPORTEDLY SIGNED A DEAL WITH ISLAND RECORDS!

BY KEVIN JACKSON—-  Sean Paul—- The Jamaica Observer has learnt that international recording artist Sean Paul has joined the roster at Island Records. A deal was reportedly signed recently between the artist and the iconic label, once owned by businessman Chris Blackwell. However, representatives from Sean Paul’s camp declined to comment. Sean Paul is currently in Germany on the second night of his ‘Out of Control’ European tour. The Island Records is the second major label deal for Sean Paul.  He signed with Atlantic Records through a joint deal with VP Records in 2002. That union produced five studio albums: Dutty Rock (2002); The Trinity (2005); Imperial Blaze (2009); Tomahawk Technique(2012); and Full Frequency (2014).
