INTRODUCING ALLAN KERFEW!

One of the hottest songs blazing a fire in the New York tri-state area, comes from the combination of a Jamaican and a Haitian artist.

Allan Kerfew and Bigga Haitian have teamed up to modernise the John Holt-penned My Best Girl with amazing results.

The song has reached the Top 10 of the New York Top 30 Reggae Chart, driven by airplay from some of the tri-State top radio personalities, including DJ Roy, Dub Master Chris, Mikey Sterling, Carl B. Moxie, and Bobby Channel One.

It is also reportedly picking up airplay in other markets, namely South Florida, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Hartford. Another single from Kerfew, Mr Bojangles, is also climbing up the said chart. Bigga Haitian is already a very well-known New York-based deejay out of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, but who is Allan Kerfew?

Allan Johnson was born in the Bog Walk area of St Catherine. He was exposed to music at a very young age. He would listen to his mother, Naomi Johnson, sing while doing her household chores, and would notice how happy his mother was when she was singing.

Eventually, he joined her singing when she was washing the family clothes, baking her favourite buns or cassava bammies. Seeing how talented and passionate Allan was when it came to singing, Naomi suggested to her then 10-year-old son that he should join the local church choir where he could hone his skills and gain valuable experience. Allan did what his mother suggested and joined the choir at the local Church of God, and eventually stayed there until he was 16 years old.

Being influenced by the likes of Delroy Wilson, Bob Marley, Elvis Presley, Dobby Dobson and John Holt, Allan was later introduced to the legendary Lee Scratch Perry, who took him into the studio to record his first song, the self-penned Just A Dream. His relationship with Perry resulted in other tracks like, Ease My PainLand Of The Free,Fly Away Home, and a cover of Presley’s, I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You.

By 1977, Allan had made Brooklyn, New York his new home, where he continued to record and perform in local clubs, and on various concerts. In 2004, Allan teamed up with producer and recording artiste Ed Robinson, and the two co-produced Allan’s debut album Just A Dream.

For his second album, Solution, Allan now joined forces with ace musician Laurence Lewis. Among the many outstanding tracks on the album are, Sunshine Of My Life, I’d Love You To Want Me, Mr Bojangles, Help Me Make It Through The Night, Foreign Life, Sunday Morning Coming Down and a bonus solo track of My Best Girl.

The album was given a positive review by www.clintonlindsay.com, and has now entered the New York Album Chart. Both singles and album are saturating the airwaves and are creating a massive buzz for an artiste who has been banging on doors for many years.

Allan Kerfew has demonstrated that he has what it takes to endure in this music business. With much experience now under his belt, he is more than ready to take on the challenges and pitfalls that have plagued so many brilliant artistes. World, get ready, Allan Kerfew has finally arrived.
