THE Resistance, a show marking one year since the death of music producer Phillip ‘Fattis’ Burrell, will be held on December 27 at South Beach Café in St Andrew.

The show is promoted by Burrell’s son, Kareem, head of the XTM Nation record label. XTM oversees the Xterminator company the older Burrell operated for close to 30 years.

“It’s ‘livicated’ to him and we want to showcase Xterminator artists and the younger generation of reggae acts out there,” Kareem Burrell told the Jamaica Observer.

Sizzla, one of the artists who made Xterminator a formidable label, is billed as headliner. Jesse Royal, Jah 9, Kayla Bliss and the Raging Fyah band are some of the emerging performers down to perform.

Most of the acts will be backed by the Firehouse Crew, the band that played on numerous Xterminator recordings by Sizzla and Luciano during the 1990s.

Known in music circles as ‘Fattis’ due to his imposing frame, Burrell died at the University Hospital of the West Indies on December 3. He was 57 years old.

Burrell came to prominence as a producer 30 years ago. The Xterminator label released some of the biggest hit songs out of Jamaica during the 1980s and 1990s and nurtured the careers of neo-roots singers Ini Kamoze, Luciano and Sizzla.

Luciano’s 1995 album, Where There is Life, is arguably Burrell’s finest produced. Distributed by Island Jamaica Records, it contains anthems like Lord Give Me Strength and It’s Me Again Jah.
