KINGSTON, Jamaica:
Reggae artist Tony Rebel is to appeal a decision of the Supreme Court to throw out an application to defend a copyright lawsuit.

Rebel wanted the Supreme Court to quash a 2006 default judgment and allow him to defend the suit on the basis that he never knew about the ruling eight years ago.

However, Justice Kirk Anderson held that since the documents were served on Rebel’s attorney, the singer cannot say he did not have knowledge about the default judgment.

The default judgment was entered in favor of musician, Wayne Lattibeaudiere, after Tony Rebel failed to file certain documents within a specified period.

However, Tony Rebel is maintaining that his lawyer, who is now dead, did not inform him about the 2006 default judgment.

As a result, Rebel wants to have the ruling set aside so that he can defend the copyright lawsuit.

Lattibeaudiere is claiming that Tony Rebel breached his copyright in relation to the composition of the rhythm ‘Going Home’ which was released under the title ‘La La Bella’.
