LEGENDARY GOSPEL SINGER OTIS WRIGHT, DIES AT 73!

 Otis Wright—

GOSPEL singer Otis Wright died on Tuesday from renal failure. He was 73.

His death was posted on a Facebook page which was created in his honour by his children.

“As his children, we would like to thank you for all the prayers, calls, texts, and visits during this difficult time. Funeral arrangements are underway as we speak. When plans are finalised we will be inviting extended family and well-wishers to join us in celebrating his life, his legacy and his contribution to Jamaican music as we know it today,” read a posting on the page.

Wright, who was from Merrywood district in St Elizabeth, is known for gospel classics such as Man From Galilee, Some Day, It Soon Be Done and Stand By Me.

He moved to Kingston in the late 1950s and first recorded as a secular artist. One of his songs, Crackers Rush, was produced by Bobby Aitken. After committing his life to Christ in the 1960s, Wright migrated to the United States where he worked as a minister of religion.
