Third World—

DECADES after recording a much-loved cover of the iconic Sattamassagana, reggae band Third World have added another track by reggae aggregation The Abbysinians to their repertoire.

The Reggae Ambassadors have covered YimMesGam (Let Him Be Praised) and on Thursday, family, friends and well-wishers came out to support the premiere of the track accompanying video at the Triple Century Sports Bar in New Kingston.

The video was directed by Kassa and sees the members of the band driving around in a vintage automobile to the moving music of the track.

Produced by Damion ‘Junior Gong’ Marley, YimMesGan features the strong vocal harmonies of the members of the band with frontman AJ Brown.

According to founding member Stephen ‘Cat’ Coore, the success of Sattamassagana drew the band to doing another cover.

“The truth is they are just such great songs. And having done Sattamassagana and having had the success with it we thought why not. But the Third World harmony is also one of the most important keys to why we did that song… that’s how we sing so it was a perfect fit.”

Coore is also pleased with the work put in by Marley as producer and hinted that it could possibly be the start of more to come.

“For the rest of 2015, we will be getting busy putting in the work and hitting the road. The Damian Marley project is really cool and as time goes by there should be more,” Coore told the Jamaica Observer.

Third World was formed more than 40 years ago and over the years the face of the group has changed. Early members include the likes of Prilly Hamilton, Carrot Jarrett and Ibo Cooper. Today, veteran cabaret act AJ Brown is the band’s front man replacing the late Bunny Rugs.

Coore notes that despite the changes in the composition of Third World the core values of the group remain.

“It’s time, energy and love. Time put in, the love among us for what we do… that’s basically what we do,” he stated.
