VINCENTIAN singer Kevin Lyttle eyes another crack at the American charts with Bum Bum, his dance song with pop singer Mya. The song was released by his Tarakon Records in late July.
Lyttle, who earned international fame with the 2003 hit song Turn Me On, describes Bum Bum as a ‘cross between dancehall and R&B with a little bit of soca’. It is produced by his compatriot Parry Jack, who worked on previous Lyttle projects including the 2008 album, Fyah.
“The concept was basically my idea which I brought to Mya after I had the opportunity to meet her while performing together in Papua New Guinea last November. The video has been picked up by major outlets so we are expecting great things,” Lyttle told the Jamaica Observer.
He said an itinerary is in place for him to tour Australia in October, with college and club dates in the United States to follow.
Australia is fast emerging as a market for breakout singles. It is where singer Omi’s Cheerleader first got mass attention before taking off in larger, more established markets of the United Kingdom and US.
Bum Bum is Lyttle’s second collaboration with a hit-making artist in a year. In 2014, he combined with Shaggy on the song Feel so Good which he admits did not do as well as expected.
Mya, 35, has done well teaming with other artists. Her most successful ‘collab’ was Lady Marmalade, alongside Pink, Lil’ Kim
and Christina Aguilera which won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals in 2002.
She worked with Beenie Man on his song Girls Dem Sugar from his 2000 Grammy-winning Art & Life album.
Turn Me On is Lyttle’s signature. After making several European charts, it topped the UK national chart, reached number four on the US Billboard pop chart and number three in Australia.
