By Mel Cooke— Ian Allen Moses Davis, aka Beenie Man.— Marion Hall has preformed on Rebel Salute in 2010, when the event was held at the Port Kaiser sports field in St Elizabeth. Then, Lady Saw was presenting an alternative – specific to the performance – to her well-established ultra-raunchy performing personality. She returns to Rebel Salute on Friday as Marion Hall yet again, but this time around, there is no Lady Saw – a persona the deejay shed with her conversion to Christianity in 2015 – for a few fans to want a flash of. There is even an addition to her name, as she is listed as Minister Marion Hall. Other performers identified by their ‘passport names’ on the poster for Rebel Salute 2017, slated for this Friday and Saturday at Grizzly’s Plantation Cove, … Read entire article »

Dexter Blake CEO Linkage Awards and Linkage Radio— Fearful that Jamaica could lose Sting, a staple on the dancehall calendar, a United States-based radio announcer has called for artists to perform for free at this year’s show. The announcer, DJ Linkage, who puts on the annual Linkage Awards in the US, made the call on Tuesday. He said that Sting is without major financial support from sponsors and that if artists perform for free it would be a major way of giving back to a show that has made a significant contribution to their careers. I’m calling out all artists to come and show appreciation to Sting on December 26, 2016, by waiving their fees to this show,” DJ Linkage said. “BOOM GT TAYLOR CHRISTMAS EXTRAVAGANZA” MOVES TO NEW VENUE FOR DECEMBER 25!

New venue, same vibes is the unofficial slogan for this year’s Boom GT Taylor Christmas Extravaganza. For the first time in 15 years, the show will not be held at Independence Park in Black River, St. Elizabeth. It moves to the Luana Sports Complex, just a stone’s throw away from Independence Park. GT Taylor, founder and promoter of ‘Extravaganza’, said the change in venue resulted from differences with the St. Elizabeth Parish Council, proprietors of Independence Park. “They rented (the venue) to another event two days before our show without telling me. That’s extremely bad treatment considering we brought recognition to the venue,” said Taylor. He is confident the Luana Sports Complex will be an adequate alternative. “I’m sure our patrons will be more than comfortable there.” This year’s ‘Extravaganza’ is another star- studded event.
