Jamaican roots-reggae singer Desbert Johnson, better known as Chezidek, is coming to Kenya.

Famed for his conscious music, the 42-year-old is on schedule to perform in Nairobi on December 5, at the Sarakasi Dome, at a music festival dubbed ‘Inna Di Road’. His tour of Kenya will be courtesy of music promoters Chini Ya Mti and Rockers Entertainment.

Among some of his highly-acclaimed songs include Leave De Trees, Fight, Call Pon Dem, Can’t Hear Must Feel and Inna Di Road.

Chezidek was discovered by record producer Philip Burrell of the Xterminator Production, when he left his childhood rural St Ann’s Bay for Kingston after finishing school. He recorded his first album in 2002, titled Harvest Time.

His first number one hit single, Leave De Trees, went on BBC Top 10 dancehall chart. Since then he has performed on major events such as Magnum Sting, Teen Splash, Dancehall Jam Jam, Bob Marley Tribute, and Tribute to Peter Tosh, Rebel Salute and Western Consciousness.

He was awarded best new artist by the Jamaica Federation of Music and Affiliated Artist (JFM) for Middlesex (County). Chezidek has released six studio albums so far.
