MIAMI, Florida –
Eddy Edwards, promoter of the annual Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival, is promising that this year’s staging will be bigger and better.
Now in its 14th year, the family-friendly food and music event is scheduled for Markham Park in Sunrise, Florida, on Sunday. It is slated to begin at 10:00 am.
“We are ahead of schedule in terms of our preparations and we’ll be creating a better experience for our patrons. Several vendors will be introducing new jerk items to the menu,” Edwards told Observer Online, a short while ago.
Edwards, who migrated to the United States from Jamaica more than three decades ago, has been involved in a number of projects promoting Jamaican culture, in Miami and New York City.
“Another new feature at the event will be pop-up performances,” he said.
The Grace Jamaica Jerk Festival’s entertainment line-up includes Third World, Barrington Levy, Chris Martin, Gentleman, comedian Christopher ‘Johnny’ Daley and up-and-coming singer Shanna Lee.
A celebrity cook-off challenge dubbed The Battle of the Beauties featuring Kaci Fennell, Miss Universe Jamaica 2014, and Miss Jamaica World 2008, Brittany Lyons, is also planned.
“They will trade their crowns for aprons… this will prove to be very entertaining,” said Edwards.
Another celebrity cook-off will see Chef Ron Duprat, BRAVO network’s Top Chef Season 6 competitor, facing off with last year’s winner, Simeon Hall Jr, Pop-up Restaurant King from the Bahamas.
In addition to jerk delights, there’ll also be cooking demonstrations, domino and netball competitions, and a fun-filled Kidz Zone.
