DJ CHARLIE CHAPLIN COMING WITH SOME “SERIOUS MESSAGES” ON NEW SINGLE AND ALBUM!

VETERAN deejay Charlie Chaplin is ramping up promotion for his upcoming single Freedom.

The track is slated to be released next week on his Crown Production label.

“We have been promoting it in the clubs, streets, everywhere,” Chaplin told theJamaica Observer yesterday.

“Di song Freedom is about a girl and a man who inna a relationship for a long time… coming from far. But because of overseas influence, she said that she wanted her freedom to go and do what she waan. After going abroad and realising that it is not what she expected, she wants to return to him,” he continued.

 According to Chaplin, the song is the first from his album, Armageddon, which is earmarked for a summer release. It will be his first studio album since Two Sides of Charlie Chaplin for RAS Records 27 years ago.

Armageddon will consist of 12 tracks and one bonus track. The album will have messages wid a likkle drama, a likkle humor… But serious message… Good message fi unite us a people,” he said.

Chaplin, who is known for his positive lyrics, gave an overview of the current state of Jamaican music.

“There are some good things happening, like the roots revival… And there are some other things like some man weh a drop down dem pants… That a di wrong concept. But dem a contribute to the music whether good or bad. Somebody haffi tek dem one side and talk to dem,” he said.

Chaplin (given name Richard Bennett) started his career in 1980 with U-Roy’s Stur-Gav sound system. He is known for songs like Que Dem, Off A Shape and Cry Blood. In 2013, he received an Order of Distinction for his contribution to the development of Jamaican music.
