Nature has pulled up roots with the Josef Bogdanovich-owned Downsound Records after a six-year relationship.
The singer was tight-lipped about what triggered his October 18 decision, saying it was a “matter beyond my control”.
“Both parties are comfortable with the decision. It’s a case where both parties think it’s time we separated … It’s just time for Nature to take its course,” he said.
“We (Downsound Records and I) did some good work together. I’m not about bashing a company or anyone. We’re all big people. We don’t need to be boisterous and discriminate anyone character. It was good for both of us to come together and do some good music,” he continued.
That label is responsible for the remix of OMI’s Cheerleader which topped Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.
Nature (real name Andre Ellis) also embarked on a promotional run in several key markets in the United States and headlined the Downsound Records-sponsored Reggae Sumfest in July.
“There’s always room for growing and this decision is part of growing,” he said.
He, however, has not confirmed his next move.
Nature is the latest act to leave Downsound Records this year. Ishawna cut ties with the label ahead of her scheduled performance on Reggae Sumfest. She was a no-show.
Ninjaman parted ways with the company last year after a three-year association.
Several efforts to contact Downsound Records CEO, Bogdanovich, were unsuccessful.
