THE Tony Rebel-led Rebel Salute Foundation recently received a shot in the arm with a donation of $250,000 from Sagicor to assist with its projects.
The foundation, geared towards youth education and community development, copped the 2018 Your View Awards (YVAs) Humanitarian Awards in February. The money was part of the award.
“I feel good to know that excellence and a humanitarian outlook can be awarded given that the work of the foundation is based on a genuine desire to create lasting impact. This award was a welcomed addition to those that I have received for my work in music,” said Tony Rebel.
“I am particularly passionate about youth and education because I know that education is the passport for any youth to climb the ladder of success and become a leader in his/her own right,” he continued.
Officially registered in 2013, the foundation’s work includes: a high school scholarship program; joint community projects with the Area 2 Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), including an annual high school debating competition; the JCF’s Torch Run for Jamaica’s special Olympics athletics; and the Area 2 Police (which covers St Ann) Annual Incentive Awards Banquet.
The Rebel Salute Foundation has also partnered with Recycling Partners of Jamaica (RPJL), introducing a recycling program for Rebel Salute 2017.
“We believe that cleanliness is next to godliness and so in keeping with the wellness approach of Rebel Salute and the Rebel Salute Foundation, environmental protection has always been at the forefront of our minds,” Rebel added.
