Wayne’s transformation

SINGER Wayne Marshall is the latest artiste to cut his dreadlocks. Marshall, 38, took to Instagram last Friday to announce his transformation.

The post was accompanied by two pictures: one with a handful of locks captioned ‘Transform’; while the other showed the artiste sporting his new ‘do’.

When contacted by the Jamaica Observer, he said he was unable to give a comment.

Marshall is known for songs including Stupid Money, Go Hard, Marshall Town, and the gospel track Glory to God.

For several years he was a member of the Marley family’s Ghetto Youth International label.

THROWING IN THE SPANNER ANOTHER

Singer, Spanner Banner, in 2014, made the decision to shear his hair. His reason: moving closer to serving God. Like Marshall, he went public via social media.

“I have been going through a lot that sometimes I don’t even tell my family. A few weeks ago I was in a terrible car accident. If you saw the accident, you wouldn’t believe I came out of that vehicle without a scratch. I have to give God thanks,” the artiste said in a Facebook video.

“With my faith being tested for so many years, and my recent car accident, plus when I realised I could have lost my wife when she collapsed, I had to turn to the Almighty for guidance, because I know that the Lord works in mysterious ways, and only him can protect and deliver me from choosing to render evil for evil, because dem nah stop, an’ a God over devil mi sey, because the devil is a defeated foe,” he continued.

Spanner Banner (given name Joseph Bonner) is brother of Pliers and Richie Spice. His songs include Life Goes On, Cheater and What We Need is Love.

GOING NATURAL

A year after Rass Kassa trimmed his ‘natty’, Guyanese singer Natural Black took the same route.

“I got up and cut off my locks Sunday morning because I looked around at my surroundings and realized that I have not been living a Rastafarian lifestyle. I want to see the changes around me, and as it relates to the upliftment of the people, the direction of the Rasta order and the walk toward perfection, that is not happening. I just see discord and chaos in the Rasta community; all of it is very misleading,” said Natural Black, whose real name is Mortimer Softley.

Black’s hits include Far From Reality, Nice It Nice and Moving Time.
