It’s coming. That is all pop princess Rihanna is prepared to say at this time regarding her upcoming reggae and dancehall album.

In response to an impatient fan on social media, the Barbadian-born artiste confirmed that the album is coming

“I’m doing music. Simultaneously doing lingerie, make-up, film, among a couple other things that I enjoy. When the music is ready, you won’t have to ask for it. But it’s coming. Just not today sis. I’m hype too tho, it can’t came soon enough,” she tweeted.

Rihanna is reportedly working on two albums simultaneously — one reggae/dancehall and other pop. In July, Rolling Stone revealed that Rihanna is “exploring her Caribbean roots,” and working with some of the biggest names in dancehall and reggae to bring her fans an unforgettable 10-track album.

According to reports a large number of Jamaican artistes and producers as well as those of Jamaican descent have been co-opted for this project. It is said that the team has been holding regular writing camps in Miami and Los Angeles and already have as many as 500 titles from which to choose the 10 which will make the final cut.

Rihanna’s last album ANTI was released in 2016 and has been certified three times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Despite the two-year gap she remains one of the most streamed artistes. Rihanna has eight albums since breaking onto the music scene in 2005 with her debut Music of the Sun. That album was primarily comprised of reggae-themed singles, and then she went pop on her sophomore LP A Girl Like Me the next year.

She has paid homage to reggae and dancehall over the years. Her debut single Pon De Replay had a distinctive dancehall beat and deejay Elephant Man was featured on the remix. Since then other tracks including Work and Man Down have all had Jamaican influences. The video for Man Down was shot in Port Antonio, Portland, and featured Jamaican male supermodel Oraine Barrett.

The 30-year-old has also been very busy over the past 18 months, launching her successful Fenty Beauty makeup line, Savage x Fenty lingerie line, and expanding her career within the world of TV and film — she appeared as part of the recent all-female ensemble in Ocean’s 8.
