THIRD WORLD CELEBRATES ITS 45th ANNIVERSARY TOMORROW, IN NEW KINGSTON!

Third World

Ask guitaist for Third World, Stephen “Cat” Coore, the reason for the group’s longevity and it comes back in one word, “Commitment”.

The band, which has done anthems such as Try Jah Love, Now that We Found Love, 96 Degrees in The Shade, Sense of Purpose, and Always Around, is currently celebrating 45 years together and a major event is set for the Liguanea Golf Academy in New Kingston tomorrow.

“I always say to youngsters you have to be committed to the music. When you say you want to be a musician, say you want to do it forever, not for two or three months. You have to give it 100 per cent and more if you want the best out of it. That has been the winning formula for us and why we have been around for 45 years. Just put in the work,” Coore advised.

This show, a follow-up to a highly successful event held at Hope Zoo two years ago, have pulled together an eclectic array of artistes to this year’s event. For Coore, this roster of acts represents artistes who, like Third World, present music at a certain level.

“It is going to be a great show, with a stellar line-up. We have completed the rehearsals with artistes such as Toots Hibbert, Tessanne Chin, Wayne Marshall, Big Youth, and Jah 9 and it was just amazing. We had that concert two years ago and wanted to bring back some of the acts who made an impact and some of these newcomers who just present really good music. I personally wanted Yellowman on this show. He just received his OD (Order of Distinction) and we just wanted to pay tribute to him. Freddie McGregor and Toots were great and we had to have them back. I am pleased with the blend and vibration of the established acts, as well as these youngsters who are putting out great music.” said Coore.

The band formed in 1973. Their sound is influenced by soul, funk and disco. Although it has undergone several line-up changes, Coore and bass player Richard Daley have been constant members.

Other early members included the late Irvin “Carrot” Jarrett and William “Bunny Rugs” Clarke as well as Ibo Cooper, Willie Stewart and Prilly Hamilton.Sponsored LinksSlot Machine Winner Denied $8.5 Million JackpotFinance101The Youngest Billionaires on EarthItsTheVibe
