SINGER WAYNE WONDER CLEARS THE AIR ON HIS “NO-SHOW” ON BUJU BANTON’S CONCERT IN BERMUDA!

Jamaican reggae artiste Wayne Wonder was reported to have pulled out of a weekend concert in Bermuda, in which he was due to appear alongside Grammy award-winner, Buju Banton.

Wonder was reached to explain what led to the development, and he pointed to a hiccup that resulted from a breakdown in communication.

“It was something simple, they didn’t want to accommodate me originally; I was supposed to just appear with Buju. (But after), they asked me to do a full set, and I said ‘yes, but you have to carry my band’, and they were like ‘why can’t you just use tracks?’

“But I said ‘no, mi nah go use tracks on a big show like that’,” Wonder told Loop Jamaica reporter Claude Mills.

“I didn’t hear back from them. It end up (that) they didn’t send me any ticket and that was it, no biggie… but yet still they put out stuff say I back out, but I didn’t back out; they never follow up back. They put out something say ‘my inability to perform’, but dem never reach out to finalize the ting,” the artiste further stated.

Wonder, whose real name is Von Wayne Charles, confirmed the development in a social media post on Friday, addressed to “all my Bermuda fans”, saying that the cancellation was beyond his control.

On Friday, the organizers of the show said Wayne Wonder, 47, was no longer on the United Festival bill at the National Sports Center on Saturday night, which was expected to attract up to 8,000 fans, “due to circumstances beyond their control”.

They added that his inability to perform was caused by “an external conflict that has nothing to do with the Unity Festival organizers”.

A spokesman for the organizers apologized for Wonder’s absence, but said all the other acts were on schedule to give “an amazing show full of additional surprises”.

Buju, 46, last appeared in Bermuda around 12 years ago, and delivered a great 90-minute set that thrilled the massive crowd that turned out. There were other performances from artistes such as Masicka and Agent Sasco from Jamaica.

Bermudan artistes who delivered well included Live Wires, C’Daynger and Jesse Seymour, all backed by the Wall Street Band.

Hosts Jabba and Young Chow kept the crowd entertained during their hosting segments.

Earlier this month, another Jamaican entertainer, Vershon, was embroiled in a row after his publicist initially claimed that the artiste had been denied entry to Bermuda as a tourist when he arrived in the island following the last-minute cancellation of a show at Dockyard in which he was due to appear.

It has since emerged that Vershon had neither applied to enter, nor actually entered Bermuda, at the time in question, and apologies were extended to the Bermudan government for the mix-up that occurred.
