THE STEFAN PENINSILYN’S DIRECTED MOVIE, “FOOLISH ADVICE” OPENS IN PORT ST. LUCIE, FLORIDA, ON SEPTEMBER 22!

Calling himself his “biggest critic”, Stefan ‘Stefan Peninsilyn’ Whyte is hoping for a strong turnout on September 22 when the movie, Foolish Advice, debuts at Tradition Town Hall in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Whyte wrote and directed the drama which is inspired by the Old Testament story of Hosea and Gomer, whose marriage is compromised by her life as a prostitute. He has the lead role of Jonathan alongside Sandra Chin who plays Suzie, his wife.

“As premier night approaches, I am very anxious and excited about the production. I strive for perfection in all I do and I’m expecting an excellent turnout,” said Whyte.

According to Whyte, when he began writing Foolish Advice it was expected to be his latest play. It evolved into a movie co-starring Chin, who has appeared in some of his theater productions such as For Better For Worse and God Over Obeah.

The main cast is rounded out by Shirley Petersen, who plays Suzie’s mother; Belinda Bartley as Dawn and Tano Bogle, Jonathan’s boss. Like Chin, Petersen, Bartley and Bogle have appeared in previous Whyte productions.

Foolish Advice was produced on the proverbial shoe-string budget of $10,000 and filmed in Miami Beach, Palm Nay and Port St. Lucie, areas with strong Jamaican communities. Whyte, who won back-to-back Festival Song Competitions in Jamaica in 2003 and 2004, insists this is his biggest challenge to date.

With the exception of The Harder They Come, movies funded by Jamaicans have not done well. Every Nigger Is A Star, The Marijuana Affair and Kla$h did dismally while others like Smile Orange, The Lunatic and Countryman became cult favorites.

Dancehall Queen and Third World Cop, released in the 1990’s, were funded by Island Records founder Chris Blackwell. While not blockbusters, they did well at the Jamaican box office.

An ordained minister, Whyte is confident divine intervention will help make Foolish Advice a winner.

“I will continue to remain prayerful until the day of the event. I am truly thankful to God for this accomplishment,” he said.
