UPCOMING SINGER MALICA, IS EXCITED FOR HER DEBUT SINGLE “OH ME OH MY!”

Though she has been in the music industry for over a decade, most of Malica’s time has been writing songs for other artists including Mojo Morgan and producers Sly and Robbie.

She shows her vocal prowess on Oh Me Oh My, a song co-produced by Walshy Fire of Major Lazer and Medz Music. It is done on the Green Rose rhythm which also features songs by Cocoa Tea, Jesse Royal and Bunji Garlin.

“I’ve been working with Walshy for a while as a writer with my brother Atiba. The incredible thing about working with certain producers who appreciate all of your talents is that they push you to your greatest potential and are willing to shine a light on you to showcase you to the world,’ said Malica. “This song was originally a demo and then Walshy hit me up to let me know he was going to release it on the new rhythm as mine.”

Walshy Fire produced Toast, the 2018 song that announced Koffee internationally. He has also produced songs by dancehall A-llisters Christopher Martin, Kranium and Demarco.

While confident of making an impact on her own, Malica acknowledged the benefits of working with a high-profile producer like the Florida-based Walshy Fire who she considers a mentor.

“He is very honest in regards to his opinion of the music we create with him and is not afraid to remind me of my greatness and full potential. He makes incredible music that is true to life and the benefit of that is that I get the chance to express myself creatively and authentically on music that is out of this world,” she said.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Malica spent her formative years in Duhaney Park, a working-class neighborhood in Kingston, Jamaica’s capital. That community has produced a number of top artistes including Cham and Konshens.

Her father operated a sound system called Love Vibration which spiked Malica and Atiba’s interest in music. Her influences are eclectic, from the dancehall of Beenie Man to the lovers rock of Beres Hammond and jazz stylings of Ella Fitzgerald.

After working on projects with high-profile artists and producers, Malica is pleased to show another dimension on Oh Me Oh My.

“I’m claiming that this song will be my most popular to date,” she said.
