GRAMMY Award-winning artiste Shaggy was forced to explain himself last week, letting fans know ‘It wasn’t me’ after it was revealed that persons have been posing as him to solicit money from his friends and associates. He took to Instagram to set the record straight.

“It has come to my attention that there have been posts online from people purporting to be me and hitting up my fans for money while making false claims that they owe me something,” he wrote.

“I would like to make it clear that these are nothing more than an internet scam. They are not from me nor do they represent me in any way. It saddens me that this has become our reality and that innocent people are being dragged in to this ridiculousness,” he continued.

The 50-year-old used the opportunity to urge fans to not facilitate these scammers.

“My best advice is to please not engage with these fake accounts. Thank you. One love to all my wonderful fans,” he expressed.

Born Orville Richard Burrell, Shaggy is popular for record-breaking tracks Boombastic, Angel, and It Wasn’t Me. He is founder the Shaggy Make A Difference Foundation that makes donations to charitable causes with special focus on the Bustamante Children’s Hospital.

In an interview with the Jamaica Observer he revealed that there will be no 2020 Shaggy and Friends as a result of a hectic touring schedule as well as his role in the live action television special, The Little Mermaid. Shaggy is to play Sebastian in the production which is set air on American network TV on November 5.
