George Nooks—

Reggae singer George Nooks, whose foray into gospel has seen him hitting the jackpot time and again, is preparing another inspirational album, to be released on the Tads Records imprint. It is titled He’ll Do It again, and although there is no definitive release date as yet, the title track is ready and has been doing the rounds on radio and in cyberspace. Nooks is happy with the response so far to this gospel nugget, made popular by ‘the First Lady of Gospel Music,’ Shirley Caesar.

“This is a song that explains itself. The words are wonderful, yuh nuh. Timeless. Just listen,” he said as he gave an impromptu mini-concert over the phone:

“You may be down and feel like God

Has somehow forgotten

That you are faced with circumstances

You can’t get through

But now it seems that there’s no way

out

And you’re going under

God’s proven time and time again

He’ll take care of you.”

Sounding like a preacher man, the entertainer, who was brought up in the church, spoke at length about the importance of having an unwavering faith in God in times like these when the coronavirus pandemic has pulled the brakes on live entertainment.

“It’s important for us to have a faith that will move mountains. I tell my colleagues in the music industry that it is vital for us to understand that these trials won’t last forever, and that we need to have a belief in a higher power. Only God can see us through, and I know He will help us to ride out this storm,” Nooks said, deliberately making reference to his 2016 gospel album and single.

He reminded that Ride Out Your Storm gave him a taste of Billboard chart success when it entered not only the Reggae Album chart, but also the Billboard Gospel charts in August 2016. He said that while he had high expectations of that album, he was still caught a bit off guard by its success. Nooks told THE STAR that he is taking his time with the production of his upcoming album, because he is also targeting the market which enjoys the option of purchasing individual tracks, and not necessarily complete albums.

Like the rest of the industry, Nooks remains at home, as a number of shows, both locally and overseas, have been either postponed or totally cancelled. The ( God Is) Standing By singer, however, refuses to dwell on what could have been, and prefers instead to look to the future. “This thing yah soon blow over and then we can get on with our lives. I am confident that He will do it again,” he declared.
