Burning Spear

Reggae legend Winston Rodney also known as Burning Spear has hinted at a possible special performance for his diehards fans may the opportunity occur. Mr. Rodney who is one of the longest standing soldiers in Jah army posted on his social media pages about the news and within seconds his wide fan base had posted thousands of replies.

With over 50 yrs of recording and performing experience, Mr. Rodney is one of the very few roots reggae music musicians who are still alive. A few years ago Burning Spear made an unexpected announcement about his retirement which left millions of his fans devastated. In a recent interview by veteran broadcaster Clinton Lindsay, Spear was asked if he misses touring, he swiftly responded that he feels he has accomplished the mission that the Most High sent him to do.

Burning Spear is one of the very lucky entertainers to be recruiting new fans long after retirement. Usually when an entertainer goes silent for a long period of time, he stops getting new fans and maintains the ones he made during their active years, but Burning Spear is a special talent. He’s been silently recruiting new fans on a daily especially on the African continent. Burning Spear’s entire catalogue is certified hits in countries like Kenya where Mr. Rodney got his name from “The Burning Spear”

The name Burning Spear is derived from Kenya’s third highest honor, the Order Of The Burning Spear, awarded by the head of state. But Burning Spear doesn’t need the head of state to get the title; he was crowned by the Kenyan people a long time ago, and has been using the title throughout all the tenures of all the Kenyan presidents.

So it comes without asking that when Burning Spear asked his social media followers where he should stage a special performance in case he came out of retirement, Kenyans in their thousands invaded the social media posts, others begging him to come back to Kenya while others posted the country’s flag, majestic with two spears and a shield. In a matter of seconds the posts were filled with spears and shields.
