Trinidadian calypso vocalist The Mighty Sparrow has confirmed that he is alive and well after false reports surfaced on social media. Here’s what you need to know.

MIGHTY SPARROW CONFIRMS HE IS WELL

Veteran singer and guitarist Mighty Sparrow hasn’t died.

The singer called during the live morning program of Trinidadian station 103.1 FM this week and confirmed that he is alive and well.

“It is well to know that my fans are concerned,” he told the hosts on the radio station.

The radio station reported that he sounded in good spirits during the call.

It appears that the death hoax surfaced after a fake tribute posted on Facebook.

Fernando Clark, who serves as marketing manager at WTN Cable, also debunked the rumors.

“Dr. Slinger Francisco, the Mighty Sparrow, Calypso king if the World is alive and well. Listen to 12.00 to 1.00 talk with Fernando Clark on Thursday with a live interview with the living legend. The rumors spreading are false, incorrect, untrue, misleading and a blatant lie. Long live Sparrow,” Fernando wrote in a Facebook post.

One fan who was worried about the singer’s wellbeing offered their thoughts over the false reports.

“Not true. Mix up apparently with someone else with the nickname “Sparrow”,” they wrote on Facebook.

Dubbed as ‘Calypso King of the World’, Mighty Sparrow is a renowned artist and one of the most famous calypsonians in the world.

He began his career in Trinidad and Tobago during the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Some of his best-known singles are Congo Man, Jean and Dinah, Drunk And Disorderly, Melda and Doh Back Back.
