NEW YORK-BASED SINGER DONA-V, PAYS TRIBUTE TO DENNIS BROWN WITH HIS LATEST SINGLE “MY BRETHREN!”

Dona-V

Like countless Jamaican singers, Dona-V grew up on the music of Dennis Brown. For his latest album, Any Means Necessary, he covered the Crown Prince of Reggae’s “Make It Easy On Yourself” as “My Brethren.”
The self-produced single was released one year ago. “It is one of my many favorite Dennis Brown songs. I am a ‘die-hearted’ Dennis Brown fan who to me is reggae’s greatest singer,” said Dona-V.

Brown, who died in 1999 at age 42, recorded the song in 1970 for producer Clement Dodd at Studio One.
Dona-V, whose recording career started in 1989, also worked with the legendary Dodd. Cry For Tomorrow, his first album, was released by Studio One in 1999.

He went all out to put his stamp on a bona fide reggae classic.
“I put a lot of my feelings in the song and as a result produced a slight twist from the original,” said Dona-V.
Any Means Necessary contains Don’t Turn Away, a collaboration with Luciano. The title track features Sizzla.
Dona-V is from Manchester parish in central Jamaica. He has been part of the New York City reggae scene for over 30 years. In addition to Brown, his influences include Delroy Wilson, Cocoa Tea and Lionel Richie.
