On July 23 when Lawgiver The Kingson steps onto the Reggae Sumfest stage, it may well be a career defining performance. It’s been years since he performed in Jamaica but knows the importance of making an impact in his homeland, especially on his birthday.
He is scheduled to appear on Main Festival Night 2 which features heavyweights such as Beenie Man, Bounty Killer and Cham. “A big performance will let the world see the magnitude of talent and artistry Lawgiver graces the stage with. I am an entertainer, I love being a musician and my fans will see that. I love what I do, I don’t see it a job, it’s my passion,” said Lawgiver The Kingson.

The California-based artist gave a hint of things to come during a press launch at Jamaica Pegasus hotel in Kingston on June 15. That event was attended by Josef Bogdonovich, principal of Reggae Sumfest which takes place July 17-23 at Catherine Hall in Montego Bay. It will be the first time in two years that the festival will be held in front of a live audience. The 2020 and 2021 shows were cancelled due to COVID-19.

Lawgiver The Kingson was born in Kingston but spent much of his formative years in St. Mary parish in eastern Jamaica. Last year, he released the EP, Lawgiver The Kingson From Kingston.

He is currently working on a follow-up project expected for release in late 2022.
For now, Reggae Sumfest is priority.
“Sumfest is very important as it’s the largest platform in Jamaica showcasing Jamaican reggae artists. As Joe Bogdanovich says, ‘Our music, our  festival, our roots’,  a fi wi culture’,” he said.
