TABBY SHAW AND BUNNY SIMPSON OF THE MIGHTY DIAMONDS HONORED AT 2022 BET AWARDS June 26, 2022–Los Angeles, CA—

Reggae icons Donald “Tabby” Shaw” and Fitzroy “Bunny” Simpson of the Mighty Diamonds were honored in the “In Memoriam” segment of the 2022 BET Awards Ceremony, which aired on June 26 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Henson, Shaw and Simpson’s names and photos appeared in a slide show including black celebrities and influencers who died recently. This year’s BET Awards “In Memoriam” segment called particular attention to those who’d lost their lives to the epidemic of gun violence.

On March 29, 2022, Shaw, 66, the Mighty Diamonds’ lead vocalist of more than 50 years, was shot and killed outside of his Kingston, JA home by unidentified assailants. Simpson, Mighty Diamonds singer and songwriter, 70, died of complications from a long illness on April 1. Formed in Trench Town, JA in 1969, the Mighty Diamonds gained international fame and respect via their hits such as “Pass the Kutchie,” “Have Mercy,” Country Living” “I Need A Roof” and Right Time.” Their latest first single in 15 years, “Fools Rush In,” a posthumous tribute to Tabby and Bunny penned by the group’s only surviving member, Lloyd “Judge” Ferguson, was released on June 21, 2022.
