Although only 21 years-old, Don Husky (Rushane Brown) has done the studio rounds since he was a student at Holy Trinity High School in Kingston. He is familiar with the challenges of trying to get that big ‘buss’. “Yuh song will play a Boasy Tuesday or Weddy Weddy but it neva pass the airport ’cause it don’t get play pon radio,” he said. “Is a money thing; nobody should get pay fi play music (on radio).” Don Husky’s passion about the lack of airplay for budding acts can be heard on On and On. Recorded on the Virquarian label, the single is a joint production between Hall, Sly Dunbar and Errol Wilson. THE JAMAICA NATIONAL PARENT-TEACHERS ASSOCIATION URGES PARENTS TO BOYCOTT THE HIGH COST OF SCHOOL GRADUATION CEREMONIES!

By Nadine Wilson— Graphic: Rorie Atkinson—- THE National Parent-Teachers’ Association (NPTA) has charged that schools are using graduation ceremonies to raise money, and is urging parents to boycott the school-leaving event. Everton Hannam, the NPTA president, made the call last week amidst growing complaints from parents about the high costs associated with the events. “A graduation exercise has, in many cases, become a fund-raising exercise for most of the schools. When I look at what the students get, based on the money they pay, I am inclined to believe that some of them have become fund-raising exercises for those who organise them,” Hannam told the Jamaica Observer. “We have received complaints starting at the primary school and even at the basic school [level] and it’s like $6,000 or $7,000 for graduation, and they are getting … Read entire article »

JAMAICA’S MORAL DECAY CONTINUES – A ST. THOMAS FUNERAL HOME OFFERS MUSIC AND GAME PACKAGES GRAVESITE PARTIES!

The moral decay worsens: St Thomas funeral practice of grave concern— IN May this year when former Prime Minister PJ Patterson reiterated the need for a national strategy and programme of action to address declining moral standards across the country, he was yet again criticised by his detractors. Among the loudest critics were some who were probably too young to know that he made an attempt at having the country deal with this issue 20 years ago. Those people we can forgive. However, there were others who, while armed with the truth of that 1994 effort by Prime Minister Patterson, thought it politically expedient to chastise him anyway. That latter group, we believe, have done younger Jamaicans a great disservice, for they have a responsibility to use history to frame their comments. We are not … Read entire article »
