VYBZ KARTEL’S “KING OF THE DANCEHALL” IS CURRENTLY THE BIGGEST SELLING DANCEHALL ALBUM ON BILLBOARD CHART!

 Vybz Kartel’s latest album King of the Dancehall is currently the top-selling album from a dancehall artiste on the Billboard Reggae Album Chart. According to Nielsen Music which tracks sales in North America, King of the Dancehall has, to date, sold 3,249 copies since its release 15 weeks ago. It sits at number 19 from the latest tally. The album debuted at number two in June. Over the past week, the album moved 54 copies. The week before it sold 93 copies. The other dancehall album ranked on the latest Billboard chart is Alkaline’s New Level Unlocked. Released 26 weeks ago, the set is at number 31. SPICE, ALKALINE, PROTOJE, AMONG FIVE VYING FOR THE UK’s MOBO AWARD, NOVEMBER 4!

Dancehall act Spice is up against her male counterparts Alkaline, Popcaan, Kranium, and Protoje. To date, three female reggae artists have been nominated in the category since the award’s inception in 1996. British reggae singer Sylvia Tella and Jamaica’s Etana were nominated in 1997 and 2008, respectively. This is the fifth nomination for Popcaan, who is last year’s winner. AUTHORITIES AGAIN, PULLED THE PLUG ON ANOTHER ALKALINE’S LONDON GIG!

 Alkaline Alkaline’s tour of the United Kingdom has been hit by a number of cancellations. The latest was last Sunday’s gig, scheduled for the Troxy in East London. According to a statement from promoters Master-Mind Ent, the event was “cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances”. The flamboyant deejay was scheduled to play the second date of his UK tour at the Piccadilly Banqueting Surie two days earlier. However, police requested the concert be stopped amid security concerns. On June 3, the first show of Alkaline’s New Level Unlocked tour (scheduled for Bedfordshire) was cancelled for similar reasons. His first tour of the UK is scheduled to continue on Friday at O2 Academy in Oxford. ALKALINE’S SECOND UK CONCERT CANCELLED AT LAST MINUTE DUE TO “SECURITY CONCERNS!”

BY JASBIR AUTHI— Police step in over controversial dancehall performer concert in Sparkhill Fans of reggae star Alkaline were left disappointed after he was forced to pull a concert following “security concerns.” Alkaline was booked to play the second date of his UK tour at the Piccadilly Banqueting Studios, off Stratford Road, in Sparkhill on Friday. His first show of his New level Unlocked tour, in Luton on June 3, was also cancelled after Bedfordshire police raised security concerns. “ALKALINE’S VISA IS VALID AND INTACT” SAYS HIS MANAGER!

 Alkaline— THE management team of controversial dancehall artist Alkaline has rubbished claims that the entertainer’s United States visa has been revoked. According to Kareena Beckford, Alkaline’s manager, the entertainer’s US permit is valid and intact. “It is all rumors. The artiste still has his work permit, so this is just another rumor that has been added to the long list,” she told Splash. THE U.S. VISA OF DANCEHALL ARTIST ALKALINE IS REVOKED, ACCORDING TO AN ONLINE REPORT!

AS THE PROMOTER, DANCEHALL STAR MAVADO LEADS THE PACK TO CLUB AMAZURA, IN QUEENS!

 Movado —- Dancehall DJ Mavado has never been identified as a regionalist, though he has performed throughout the Caribbean and collaborated with soca artists. This weekend, the singjay reaches out to his Caribbean brethren as promoter of League Weekend, a two-day show at the Amazura Nightclub in Queens, New York. Friday’s opening night is a dancehall showcase with Mavado as headliner, alongside Spice, Vershon and I-Octane. On Saturday, it is an all-soca affair. The article published in THE STAR last Wednesday has generated some amount of unease among entertainers, who believe the story was one-sided. Since the article was published, The Sunday Gleaner has received a number of calls from entertainers who say that the story painted artists in a bad light. While agreeing that artists who overcharge promoters for appearances on shows are hurting the music industry, the entertainers revealed that they, too, have been charged to appear on big-name shows.
