By Shereita Grizzle—  Alkaline Supreme Promotions, promoters of Sting, are denying news that they offered dancehall artist Alkaline $2.5 million to perform on the show in December. After news began to circulate online Wednesday, Isaiah Laing, CEO of Supreme Promotions, sought to clear the air, stating that the story is a rumor. Laing told the weekend STAR that he has been in contact with neither Alkaline nor any member of his management team and has no idea where the stories saying otherwise are coming from. “We have not been in touch with him and we certainly have not made any offers,” he said. “I reached out to Alkaline and his team the last two years about performing and there was no response, so I will never call them again.” Despite his stance to not contact the deejay … Read entire article »

TAD’S RECORDS PUTS ITS MONEY ON DANCEHALL MUSIC!

Top: Demarco Bottom: Alkaline DESPITE a continued slump in popularity overseas, music distributor Tad Dawkins says hardcore dancehall had the better of traditional reggae in terms of sales and appeal in 2014. Dawkins, head of Tad’s International Record, declared in an interview with the Jamaica Observer that: “The dancehall scene is in a lull, the one drop reggae is making a bid to top the genre, but sales abroad and iTunes show dancehall outselling reggae by at least 10 to 1. The radio stations locally and overseas are responsible for that, they play mostly dancehall,” he said. According to Dawkins, imprisoned deejay Vybz Kartel “is still the number one seller”, followed by deejay Alkaline and singjay Demarco. Alkaline and Kartel dominate the latest edition of The Ultimate, a 23-track compilation recently by Tad’s. It includes … Read entire article »

DANCEHALL ARTIST ALKALINE’S WORK PERMIT IS REVOKED FOR ST. KITTS-NEVIS!

In response to the steps taken by the authorities to bar the dancehall deejay, he says he is not deterred by the move as he has gotten accustomed to people being against him. TO ACHIEVE AN IMAGE, AN INCREASING NUMBER OF ARTISTS ARE USING THEIR BODIES AS CANVAS!

TO ACHIEVE AN IMAGE, AN INCREASING NUMBER OF ARTISTS ARE USING THEIR BODIES AS CANVAS!

Radijah— By Curtis Campbell— In the 1990s, tattooing was just as taboo in dancehall as was skinbleaching. That is now a thing of the past as recording artists are pushing boundaries, using some of the most precious parts of their skin as a canvas. Dancehall artist Alkaline in 2013 claimed to have tattooed the sclera of his eyes because he wanted attention, that claim has since been refuted by several dancehall artists including Radijah who accuses the deejay of wearing contact lens. Radijah has also … Read entire article »
