LAWYER GLORIA DE CLOU, ADVISES ARTISTS TO “READ THE FINE PRINT!”

 Gloria De Clou— LAST year, some well-known Jamaican artists ended up in Trinidad’s courts for breaching contracts with show promoters in that country. It cost the artists, Anthony B, Jah Cure and Busy Signal, a pretty penny. Gloria De Clou, a Kingston attorney, says entertainers should be more responsible when it comes to dealing with contractual matters. “They need legal advice. They need proper advice before they sign any document,” she told the Jamaica Observer. De Clou, who is from Guyana, has been a general practitioner for 10 years. She worked in the attorney general’s office before going into private practice.She has advised several Jamaican artists including Carl Dawkins as well as Kingston Music Institute, a management company out of Canada. BUSY SIGNAL REPORTEDLY TAKEN BEFORE THE COURT IN ZIMBABWE!

 Busy Signal— CALL it déjà vu, but a Zimbabwe newspaper is reporting that dancehall artist Busy Signal was brought before the court for breaching a contractual agreement in that country. He was, however, cleared of the charge. According to the News Day, Busy Signal — who is on tour in Africa — appeared before High Court judge Justice Matanda-Moyo on Wednesday on a suit by Patrick Hundu of Long Cash Entertainment. According to reports, Long Cash Entertaiment made a deposit of $5,500 as a commitment fee on $55,000 gig in August, but failed to make the non-refundable deposit of $27,500 byJune 4, 2015. BUSY SIGNAL ARRIVES IN HARARE, ZIMBABWE!

OVER the years, Turf Music Entertainment, handlers of dancehall reggae star Busy Signal, had to issue statements “setting the record straight” by denying any links to Zimbabwean promoters or having scheduled shows in the country. DANCEHALL SINGER DARRIO, FEELS THE LOVE IN AFRICA!

 Singer Darrio performing in Kenya—- Africa has become one of dancehall music’s most vibrant markets, especially in the last five years. Among the artists making a mark there is singer Darrio. Next week, the 29-year-old heads to the Motherland for his fourth visit. On October 7, he deejays Delus and Konshens perform in Juba in the Sudan. The following day, he and Delus are scheduled to perform at the Skyluxx Nightclub in Nairobi, Kenya. It is Darrio’s second trip to Africa this year, having worked in Kampala, Uganda in August. “Africa is a high-energy place, the people feel strongly about the music an’ Jamaican culture. JAH CURE IS “GOOD TO GO” AFTER CLEARING-UP DEBT IN TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO!

 Jah Cure— REGGAE artist Jah Cure was given clearance to leave Trinidad and Tobago yesterday by Judge James Aboud after the singer settled an outstanding debt with a party promoter. According to the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian online, Jah Cure (given name is Siccature Alcock) and his legal team reappeared before the high court judge at the Hall of Justice in Port of Spain and informed the court that a settlement was made with Keevan Phillips of Sunshine Promotions. Jah Cure’s attorney Steven Singh said that his client agreed to pay Phillips US$2,500, in addition to the US$6,000 that was paid on Sunday night. Jah Cure was arrested on Sunday night, minutes after he completed a performance at the O2 Park in Chaguaramas. JAH CURE ARRESTED IN TRINIDAD!

Jamaican reggae artist Jah Cure is the latest international performer to face legal woes whilst on tour in Trinidad. The 36-year-old performer, real name Siccature Alcock, was arrested by marshals of the Port -of-Spain High Court shortly after completing his performance at a show at the O2 Park in Chaguaramas on Sunday night. Alcock, who has been a regular fixture on the local entertainment scene since being released after serving an eight year prison for rape in Jamaica in 2008, was brought to the Hall of Justice around 1 am. After lengthy discussions between his lawyer Mario Merritt and attorneys for the local promoter who he owes over TT $83,000 in performance fees for a concert that did not materialize, Alcock was allowed to go free.
