CENTRAL LONDON GOES CRAZY FOR CHRONIXX!

The reggae star gave Somerset House a sweet taste of Jamaica. By Dionne Grant REBEL SPIRIT: Chronixx on stage at Somerset House last night [PIC CREDIT: Tony @ Black Ink] EVEN THE rain took a break from its scheduled programming to enjoy the soothing sounds of Jamaican reggae sensation Chronixx at his headline show in London’s Somerset House last night (July 12). The outspoken artist brought a taste of Jamaica – complete with a slight glimmer of sun and support from fellow singer Dre Island – to the gloomy city, which had been beaten with spells of rain throughout the day. Even the men’s final at Wimbledon ground to a halt as the rain belted down just hours before Chronixx took to the stage. But all of that was a distant memory when the 22-year-old, complete with … Read entire article »

“IT’S THE MEDIA’S FAULT” SAYS CHRONIXX!

   (L) Chronixx (R) Barack Obama CHRONIXX has addressed his controversial ‘waste man’ remark about United States president Barack Obama. In an interview with Billboard.com, the singer said the media is to blame for misrepresenting his Instagram post, made during Obama’s visit to Jamaica in April. “The post was more about Marcus Garvey as a leader of the black movement. The media has a way though how to fix things to their own benefit. They use little points from what you say and take it and put it as headline. So they might take the most insignificant aspect of a whole reasoning and use that as the headline,” he said. The Instagram rant was triggered by what Chronixx considers the US government’s failure to clear National Hero Marcus Garvey of mail fraud in that country. Garvey … Read entire article »

“JAMAICA NEEDS TO CHANGE ITS STRATEGY TO HOLD ON TO REGGAE MUSIC” SAYS BILLBOARD MAGAZINE’S PAT MESCHINO!

By Shereita Grizzle SOJA’s front man, Jacob Hemphill. — Jamaica needs to change its strategy if the country is going to continue to hold on to reggae music. That was the main message of Billboard’s Pat Meschino as she addressed guests at the International Reggae Day (IRD) conference, held at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel, New Kingston, last Wednesday. In recent years, the success of the music that helped define Jamaica as a global musical powerhouse is seemingly losing its initial identity. Non-Jamaican musicians have been dominating the international markets, while Jamaicans play second fiddle, but Meschino believes that with the right marketing muscle, Jamaicans will, once again, be able to compete on the international market and may even reclaim the number-one spot. Comparing statistics from the first Billboard reggae charts in 1993 with the most listings, Meschino … Read entire article »

IN SPITE OF THE RUMORS, CHRONIXX TO TOUR THE U.S. MAY 23 – JUNE 22!

By Richard Johnson—  Chronixx—- IT appears Chronixx still has a permit to work in the United States. The rumour mill has been grinding in the past few weeks that his US visa and work permit were revoked after his ‘waste man’ Twitter comments which many feel were aimed at American president Barack Obama during his recent visit to Jamaica. The artist and his team, who are currently overseas, did not address the questions from the Jamaica Observer about his US travel documents. Instead, they forwarded a copy of the artist’s itinerary for the US leg of his Capture Land Tour, which begins on May 23 and ends June 20, with 22 dates. This suggests that the 22-year-old artist (born Jamar McNaughton) has not had his visa/work permit revoked by the United States Embassy in Kingston. The … Read entire article »

“RANT UNLIKELY TO HURT CHRONIXX IN THE USA” SAYS RECORD COMPANY EXECUTIVE!

By Howard Campbell—-  ‘RANT UNLIKELY TO HURT CHRONIXX’—- SINGJAY Chronixx’s controversial ‘waste man’ Instagram reference to American President Barack Obama is unlikely to harm his career in the United States, says music industry veteran Gary ‘Doctor Dread’ Himelfarb. Obama, who arrived in Jamaica last Wednesday, was on a one-day working visit. He had bilateral talks with the Jamaican Government and Caricom leaders as well as addressed youth leaders at a forum held at the University of West Indies Mona Campus in St Andrew. The founder of RAS Records told the Jamaica Observer that Chronixx could have been more ‘diplomatic’ in his post, but ultimately it is his opinion. “There are many injustices in the world and those that speak out publicly against them are often chastised, ridiculed or even persecuted,” says Himelfarb. “His intention for what … Read entire article »
