KEN BOOTHE TO CUT BACK ON DATES IN 2016!

 Ken Boothe— REGGAE great Ken Boothe plans to cut back on his calendar of shows in 2016. “I am taking a break, I have seen what extensive touring can do to artists, so I am taking care of my inner self. I can no longer do 15 shows on a tour, so I will satisfy with eight shows,” he said. HEINEKEN STARTIME CONCERT SERIES TO RETURN WITH NEW NAME IN JANUARY!

 Michael Barnett— Startime, the live show credited with sparking the rocksteady revival of the 1990s, returns in early January. Michael Barnett, who started the event as Heineken Startime in June 1988, told the Jamaica Observer that details of the show will be announced soon. Startime was last held in September 2013 at Mas Camp in Kingston. “Since Startime ended as an annual series of concerts in 2007, vintage artistes and musicians really have no platform in Jamaica to consistently expose their music, stage craft and talents …. and they still have a major role to play in the big picture,” said Barnett. NEW YORK-BASED REGGAE SINGER TOM LAING, SHOOTS VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE “LOVE IS OK!”

New York-based Reggae singer Tom Laing recently shot the music video for his single titled Love Is Ok Ft. Myrr-Cedez Gayle. The video was filmed under the expert guidance of popular music video director Anju Val at various locations in Brooklyn, New York including the Fish Eye Café. “The video shoot went extremely well, we got a lot of good scenes. ENID MURRAY, MOTHER OF GREGORY ISACCS, DIES AT 85!

 ENID Murray, mother of singer Gregory Isaacs, died on July 24 at the University Hospital of the West Indies. She was 85. Isaacs’s widow, June Isaacs, told the Jamaica Observer that Ms Murray suffered a stroke early last week and was admitted to hospital. Isaacs was unable to give the cause of death, but said her mother-in-law was diabetic. Murray was born in Kingston and earned a living as a hairdresser. Gregory Isaacs, the older of her two sons, is one of the chief exponents of lovers’ rock reggae. Known for hits such as Soon Forward and Night Nurse, he died in October 2015. Murray’s younger son, Sylvester, died in November. Enid Murray is survived by 22 grandchildren as well as several great-grandchildren. … Read entire article »

THE GREGORY ISAACS FOUNDATION TO LAUNCH ” COOL RULER SPRING WATER” ON JULY 15!

 Gregory Isaacs— THE Gregory Isaacs Foundation will launch its Cool Ruler Spring Water on July 15, the birthday of the singer who died in October 2010. The event is part of the ‘Meet Me At The Corner’ series, held at the corner of Orange and Charles streets in downtown Kingston. There will also be the unveiling of a mural, painted by singer Junior Moore of The Tamlins, in honor of Isaacs, the lovers rock icon whose laid-back sound and style earned him the nickname The Cool Ruler.
