LEGENDARY R&B SINGER/SONGWRITER/PRODUCER ALLEN TOUSSAINT DIES AT 77!

By Manny Otiko— Allen Toussaint, a mainstay of the New Orleans R&B scene who also worked with Paul McCartney, Paul Simon and Eric Clapton, has died at the age of 77, according to several news reports. He died after performing at a concert in Madrid, Spain. The New York Times reported that his daughter Alison Toussaint-LeBeaux confirmed his death in an email. Born in 1938 in a working class area of New Orleans, Toussaint, taught himself how to play the piano and released his first album in 1958. However, Toussaint began to receive international recognition when the Rolling Stone and the Who recorded “Fortune Teller,” one of his songs. PRESIDENT OBAMA REJECTS IDEA OF REVOKING BILL COSBY’S MEDAL OF FREEDOM!

 Bill Cosby— President Barack Obama is rejecting the idea of revoking Bill Cosby’s Presidential Medal of Freedom because of sexual misconduct allegations. Obama says there’s no precedent or mechanism to take back the medal. He declined to talk about the specific allegations against Cosby because there are pending legal matters. But at a presidential news conference Wednesday, Obama left no question about his position on the larger issue of rape. Obama says that drugging someone and having sex with them without consent qualifies as rape. Court documents obtained by The Associated Press have revealed that Cosby admitted under oath that he obtained quaaludes to give to women with whom he wanted to have sex. In an interview with Billboard.com, the singer said the media is to blame for misrepresenting his Instagram post, made during Obama’s visit to Jamaica in April. “The post was more about Marcus Garvey as a leader of the black movement. The media has a way though how to fix things to their own benefit. They use little points from what you say and take it and put it as headline. So they might take the most insignificant aspect of a whole reasoning and use that as the headline,” he said. In a letter dated June 11, Obama said, ‘I was moved by your generosity’. Throughout the three-paragraph letter, the US leader refers to the veteran entertainer as ‘Patrick’ (Rebel’s given name is Patrick Barrett). The letter bears his signature.
