VETERAN SINGER LEROY BROWN, COVERS A CLASSIC!

 Leroy Brown— RELEASED in 1964, Tom Paxton’s ballad The Last Thing on My Mind has earned its ‘classic’ tag. It has been covered by several Jamaican artists, the latest being Leroy Brown. The veteran singer’s self-produced version was recently released on his Caturna label. While he is familiar with the original, Brown said it was one of the covers that grabbed him. “Is a song a love from the 70s when Delroy (Wilson) did it. It’s a beautiful song, a jus’ hope I did it justice,” he told the Jamaica Observer. Brown’s version features Sly and Robbie, the Firehouse Crew’s Paul ‘Wrong Move’ Crosdale on guitar and keyboard and keyboardist Bobby Kalphat.  It is expected to be part of his latest album, True Confessions, which will be released later this year. GOSPEL SINGER CLAUDELLE CLARKE REMEMBERS THE LEGENDARY OTIS WRIGHT!

  The late Otis Wright and gospel singer Claudelle Clarke back in the days.—- CLAUDELLE Clarke, a contemporary of gospel singer Otis Wright who died May 6, says he stood up for locally produced Christian music at a time when Jamaican producers and disc jockeys preferred sounds from their American counterparts. Clarke, known for gospel favourites such as Just As I Am, I Saw The Light, God Is A Mountain and That’s Enough, told the Jamaica Observer that she knew Wright for over 40 years.
