DRUMMER/PRODUCER KIRK BENNETT TO RELEASE “RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE”

 The cover of Kirk Bennett’s Rumble In The Jungle.— Albums by Jamaican musicians have become a rarity as many struggle to pick up session work. Kirk Bennett has no such problem. Recognised as the country’s premier reggae drummer, Bennett shows his skills as a musician and producer on Rumble In The Jungle, scheduled for release by VP Records on Friday. It is his second album. His first, Streetwise Dubwise, was released in 2009. “The true concept was creating an album that would have a song that appeals to everyone…young, mature and eclectic. KINGSTON SAYS FAREWELL TO JIMMY RILEY ON APRIL 6!

By Brian Bonitto—    THE celebration of the life of reggae singer Jimmy Riley is slated for Webster Memorial United Church on Half-Way- Tree Road, St Andrew, on Wednesday, April 6. Start time is 1:00 pm. Saxophonist and close family friend Dean Fraser said the occasion is “not a funeral”. “It’s a memorial, not a funeral… More of a celebration of his life. People attending are encouraged to wear bright colors or white,” he told the Jamaica Observer yesterday. “There’ll be lots of musical tributes,” he continued. TARRUS RILEY REAPS EUROPEAN GOLD AND PLATINUM STATUS!

The song is by British soul singer Ellie Goulding and features Tarrus Riley. The Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) issues platinum certification for singles selling 70,000 copies. The song peaked at number seven on the Australian pop chart and went number one on its dance chart. Recorded Music NZ (formerly Recording Industry Association of New Zealand certifies singles selling over 7,500 copies gold. Powerful reached number 20 in New Zealand. COCOA TEA, ETANA AND TARRUS RILEY, HEADING TO BERMUDA IN MARCH!

The veteran artist — who has produced hit after hit during his remarkable career — will perform at the Bermuda Athletic Association on March 24. Reggae stars Tarrus Riley and Etana will be with him for what promises to be a memorable and exciting occasion. Local acts have yet to be confirmed. Tickets go on sale at Ptix.bm in mid-January. CHIMNEY RECORDS CUTS BACK ON ITS RELEASES FOR 2015!

It features dancehall favorites such as No Man to Mi Spliff by Aidonia; We Run Road by Beenie Man, and Demarco’s Who The Hell Cares. Chimney Records producer Jordan McClure attributed the cutback in production to the label’s focus on multiple ventures. “We are working on a lot of projects right now. It has been a good year for us because our Happy Hour riddim from 2014 spilled over into 2015 and enjoyed strong rotation all over,” McClure told the Jamaica Observer. J Capri, whose given name is Jordan Phillips, reportedly lost control of her Mercedes-Benz which hit a wall before overturning along Barbican Road in St Andrew, early yesterday morning. “We are really grateful to the donors who came in to give blood, but we are asking others to please contribute as her blood count is extremely low. She really lost a lot of blood,” he said.
