SHAGGY AND TARRUS RILEY ARE MAKING THEIR MOVES ON THE BRITISH POP CHART!

Shaggy, whose chart hits in the UK include In the Summertime, Boombastic, Oh Carolina, Angel and It Wasn’t Me, goes from 45 to 36 with I Need Your Love which also features Mohombi, Faydee and Costi. It reached number 66 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Riley earns his first UK entry as featured act on the Major Lazer-produced Powerful, done with British soul singer Ellie Goulding. DUANE STEPHENSON AND TARRUS RILEY GO BACK TO THE GHETTO FOR VIDEO SHOOT!

 By Kevin Jackson—  Reggae singers Duane Stephenson and Tarrus Riley— SINGER Duane Stephenson, who is preparing for shows in Africa, recently completed the video for the song Ghetto Religion. The single, from his Dangerously Roots album, is a cover of R Kelly and Wyclef Jean’s 2003 single. “Tarrus is my musical brother. When I thought about recording the reggae version of the song, he was the one who instantly came to mind. It was just fitting for him to be on the single as well, given where we are from the ghetto. We were able to make the song relatable,” Stephenson explained. The video is directed by Damion Gayle of Warrior Music, who was also behind Stephenson’s Rasta For I visual. This is one of the areas being looked at this year for IRD, which will be observed on July 1. According to Davis, despite the strides made in the music over the years, “reggae is still not being given a priority in terms of investment and promotion here”. DAMIAN “JR. GONG” MARLEY RELEASES DATES FOR HIS “CATCH A FIRE” U.S. TOUR!

Damian Marley has released the dates for his Catch A Fire US Tour later this year. The youngest son of reggae legend Bob Marley will be joined on tour by brother Stephen Marley, along with Morgan Heritage and Tarrus Riley, with special guests Jo Mersa and Black Am I. The tour will kick off in late August with stops in Philadelphia and at New York’s Central Park Summerstage before visiting Asbury Park’s Stone Pony, then heading west to Denver’s Fillmore Auditorium and rounding out at the Santa Barbara Bowl.  TOK— ALL is set for the second staging of the Blue Mountain Music Festival at the Hollywell Recreational Park in St Andrew, today and tomorrow. SINGER JIMMY RILEY HOSPITALIZED AFTER CONTRACTING THE CHIK-V VIRUS, ACCORDING TO PUBLISHED REPORT!

  By André Williams— Veteran reggae, lovers-rock singer Jimmy Riley, who is also the father of Tarrus Riley, is terribly ill and remains hospitalised three weeks after being admitted for an undisclosed illness after contracting chik-V. THE STAR understands that there is no clear indication when the elder Riley is scheduled to be released from hospital as his current state is said to require regular monitoring by doctors. Riley’s latest studio album, Contradictions, was released in September 2013 by VP Records and features son Tarrus, Sizzla and Fanton Mojah. Efforts by THE STAR to speak to a member of the family proved futile. It is unclear who currently manages the elder Riley, who, up to a few months ago, was still actively touring and performing at gigs locally and internationally. From their earliest sets at the JamWorld Complex in Portmore on Friday night, it was clear that the reggae acts were determined not to be outdone. They put in workman-like performances to earn the respect of the tough Sting crowd.
